Mini bio
From research to teaching.
Elliot Schneider studied physics at Caltech before completing a Harvard PhD. His May 2021 dissertation, Stringy ER = EPR, explored connections between quantum entanglement and black-hole geometry in string theory, working with Daniel Jafferis. On Patreon, he explains that after his PhD he devoted his time to making physics lessons and courses.
Finding his audience.
An early touchstone is his September 2021 introduction to Lagrangian and Hamiltonian mechanics, which has reached more than a million views. Using a familiar pendulum, he introduces two formulations that students encounter beyond Newton’s laws. His library now separates introductory Physics Help Room videos from more advanced Mini-Lessons and classic problems.
More ways to learn.
Alongside YouTube, Elliot offers Fundamentals of Lagrangian Mechanics and Fundamentals of Tensor Calculus. The tensor series moves from Cartesian coordinates to curvilinear coordinates and spacetime. His free newsletter provides illustrated lessons and notes to accompany his videos, while interactive animations let students explore ideas themselves.
