Mini bio

How it started.

Plini began by sharing small clips and musical ideas on guitar forums, then putting full songs on Bandcamp. Primarily self-taught, the Sydney musician drew inspiration from players including Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, John Petrucci and Guthrie Govan. What began as a hobby grew into a following online.

Finding an audience.

A trilogy of early EPs led to the 2016 debut album Handmade Cities. Recorded in a Sydney bedroom, it was composed, arranged, produced and mixed by Plini, with Troy Wright on drums and Simon Grove on bass. Steve Vai’s public praise helped mark Plini’s arrival, and MusicRadar readers voted Plini their best prog guitarist of 2017.

Building the music.

Impulse Voices followed in 2020, and the Mirage EP arrived in 2023 with a Tosin Abasi solo on “Still Life”. The 2026 album An Unnameable Desire expands the ensemble with strings, saxophone, flute and harp alongside the core band. Across those records, composition and arrangement remain central to the project.
