Mini bio

How it started.

Tim Henson and Scott LePage grew up in Plano, Texas, and formed Polyphia in high school in 2010. Their early sound drew on death metal and deathcore. By the 2013 EP Inspire, the songs were becoming more melodic, and a DIY guitar playthrough for “Impassion” brought them a wider audience on YouTube.

Finding their sound.

Muse arrived in 2014, bringing pop hooks, funk and electronic touches into their guitar writing. Renaissance followed in 2016, then New Levels New Devils in 2018. With Henson and LePage on guitars, Clay Gober on bass and Clay Aeschliman on drums, the band built a sound where intricate playing sits alongside beats and melodies.

Opening the door.

Remember That You Will Die arrived in 2022 with guests including Steve Vai, Sophia Black, Brasstracks and Chino Moreno. “Playing God” put nylon-string guitars into the band’s mix of bossa nova, flamenco and trap rhythms. Guitar World readers voted the record their best guitar album of 2022.

Where they are now.

In 2025, Polyphia made “Let’s Go” for Riot Games’ 2XKO, while Henson and LePage also continued their collaboration with BABYMETAL on “Sunset Kiss.” Their fifth studio album, Be Not Afraid, arrived on October 23, 2026. Henson explained in an interview that this time they chose to make a record without featured guests.

  3. Both Henson and LePage started playing guitar at age 10, encouraged by their fathers.
  4. Henson played violin before guitar and began violin lessons at age three.
  5. For “Brand New Day,” Henson and LePage worked on guitars while touring in a van. For “Sunset Kiss,” they wrote at home instead.
