Mini bio

How it started.

Ruel picked up a guitar at eight and began posting covers on YouTube a few years later. A cover shown by Ruel’s dad to music manager Nate Flagrant led to an introduction to producer M-Phazes. Their first release together, “Golden Years,” came out when Ruel was 14.

The early songs.

The debut EP Ready introduced songs including “Younger,” “Don’t Tell Me” and “Dazed & Confused.” That last song earned Ruel the 2018 ARIA Award for Breakthrough Artist. “Painkiller” followed in 2019, and the Free Time EP reached No. 3 on the ARIA Albums Chart.

Building an album world.

The first full-length album, 4TH WALL, arrived on 3 March 2023 and debuted at No. 3 in Australia. Ruel told Apple Music that The Truman Show helped inspire its title and concept. The record brought together folk, pop and more cinematic ideas.

A new chapter.

After moving from Sydney to Los Angeles, Ruel released Kicking My Feet in October 2025, followed by its companion Kicking My Feet & Screaming in June 2026. The projects include work with longtime collaborator M-Phazes as well as Dan Wilson and Kenny Beats. In October 2026, Ruel teamed up with Sadie Jean for “Another You.”
