Mini bio
Bedroom beginnings.
Sam Gumbley grew up in Wolverhampton and made beats in their bedroom. “Woooo” became their early calling card in grime. StayFresh’s 2010 mixtape collected MC versions of the instrumental, including D Double E’s.
Finding a voice.
Production brought work with artists including Skepta and Childish Gambino. S-X began singing in 2017 and followed with the mixtapes Reasons, Temporary, True Colours and A Repeat Wouldn’t Go a Miss. In a 2022 interview, they described singing as a relatively new part of their music.
Songs of their own.
S-X produced and featured on KSI’s “Down Like That” alongside Rick Ross and Lil Baby in 2019. The debut album things change arrived in July 2022, with KSI and Trippie Redd among its collaborators. S-X described it as a record of the previous two years, with closer attention to its message and lyrics. Anywhere But Here followed in December 2023.
Connected to home.
Before becoming a Wolves Foundation ambassador in 2019, S-X worked in retail at Wolverhampton Wanderers. The appointment focused on opportunities for young people in the city. In 2022, they also spoke about working with Wolves Records to help homegrown talent.
