Mini bio
How it started.
Growing up in New Orleans, Samyra found an early love of performing. After Hurricane Katrina displaced their family to Texas, they sang “Start of Something New” from High School Musical at a school talent show in 2006. Back home, singing and football shared the spotlight: Samyra performed anthems at school games and played defensive tackle.
Finding an audience.
While studying sociology at Harvard, Samyra began turning music into a recording career. “Freak Witchu” grew out of a class project and gained attention on TikTok. Their shopping videos also found an audience by showing what plus-size customers actually encounter in fitting rooms, on store racks and in supposedly inclusive collections.
Music with a message.
Samyra connects those shopping experiences to music. “Supermodel” reworks Jill Sobule’s song from Clueless around self-acceptance, while “Plus-Size Freestyle” questions fashion’s limited size ranges. Their work also includes modeling for Ashley Graham’s JCPenney campaign and recreating celebrity style for Teen Vogue.
