Mini bio

How it started.

After graduating from Vassar in 2012, Shannon moved to New York for a job as a neuroscience research technician. She also trained in improv at the Upright Citizens Brigade and began writing sketches and performing stand-up. When she entered her PhD program at Weill Cornell in 2014, she kept comedy in her life and started bringing science into her material.

From the lab to the stage.

In 2015 she began hosting Drunk Science with friends from comedy. An Inverse video in which she explained alcohol’s effects while drinking became a viral success and led to Your Brain on Blank. The series made familiar experiences, from caffeine to puppies, a way into neuroscience.

Her work spans animated TED-Ed lessons, science comedy, and podcasting. She co-hosted The Science of Self-Care with Steven Polletta and Sophie Yalkezian, and serves as a science expert on television. On Fun City, she steps into fiction as Lash Goodbog; on its science-fiction campaign Float City, she played Beta CommBot.
