Mini bio
How it started.
Simon began making videos in 2010 to help fellow state-school students navigate Oxford and Cambridge admissions. He studied physics at St Peter’s College, Oxford, before a PhD in atmospheric physics at Exeter. His channel moved towards science during his doctorate.
Finding his audience.
Student-life videos were an early part of his channel. By 2026, he was revisiting what had changed since his first viral vlog ten years earlier. His work now centres on the climate crisis, including energy, biodiversity, food systems, health and misinformation.
Making the science visible.
Simon builds miniature worlds to explain climate change. One video uses a handmade Earth dotted with wind turbines and solar panels; another builds a tiny zero-carbon city. His book Firmament introduces the science and history of the atmosphere.
Beyond the channel.
He hosted the 2022 TED/YouTube Countdown event and has presented for BBC Earth, Sky News, BBC Bitesize and the Weather Channel. He is also a Cool Earth ambassador.
