Mini bio
How it started.
Before The Paper Kites became a five-piece, Sam Bentley and Christina Lacy were teenagers playing local cafés together. The band formed in Melbourne in 2010, with David Powys, Josh Bentley and Samuel Rasmussen completing the group.
The song that kept finding people.
Bloom became their calling card. The 2011 Woodland EP helped build an audience, and by early 2012 they were headlining around Australia. Their debut album States followed in 2013. Bloom went on to earn platinum certifications in the United States, Canada and Australia.
Following the songs somewhere new.
For twelvefour, Sam Bentley wrote between midnight and 4 a.m., then the band recorded in Seattle with producer Phil Ek. Roses took another turn: ten duets with guests including Julia Stone, Lucy Rose, MARO and Aoife O’Donovan, produced by Bentley and Tom Iansek.
A room of their own.
In July 2022, they spent a month in Campbells Creek, Victoria, playing free, unannounced shows while working on At the Roadhouse. The sixteen-song album arrived in 2023. Their 2026 follow-up, If You Go There, I Hope You Find It, was co-produced with Matt Redlich and mixed by Jon Low.
