Mini bio
How it started.
Umair grew up in Islamabad. Before finding his own voice, he filmed his brother Yasir’s band Erta’ash at shows. He wanted to play drums, but borrowed a guitar when a kit proved too expensive. Guitar teacher Farooq Shah encouraged him to sing.
From Qayaas to Coke Studio.
He joined Qayaas in 2008. Songs including Tanha and Umeed brought attention, followed by the band’s 2011 album Uss Paar. In 2012, he sang Charkha Nolakha with Qayaas and Atif Aslam on Coke Studio. His 2015 duet Sammi Meri Waar with Quratulain Balouch introduced him to a much wider audience.
Beyond the band.
His acting work includes the fantasy drama Mor Mahal and the film Yalghaar. In 2020, Easypaisa Raahi took him across Pakistan by motorcycle and marked his debut in writing and production. His 2023 release Dance Karein Saari Raat explored an electronic sound.
