Mini bio
How it started.
Zak was working in real estate when he brought home Venus, a Border Collie. Frisbee competitions drew him into training, and he took Venus and her trophies to his PetSmart job interview. He began posting training videos on YouTube in 2006.
From tricks to television.
He toured with Stunt Dog Productions from 2006 to 2008. Animal Planet’s SuperFetch followed in 2009, then BBC and CBBC’s Who Let the Dogs Out? His work with Bree George began in 2011.
Lessons you can follow.
His two books, written with Dina Roth Port, bring his teaching to the page. Fans can also follow individual dogs through full video series, including his own Border Collie Inertia, with setbacks and adjustments part of the story.
The bigger questions.
His current Cops + Dogs project investigates police violence against dogs and the use of dogs against people. The project connects his training work to wider questions about welfare and power.
