Mini bio
How it started.
Zeke came to climate science through clean technology startups. He co-founded Efficiency 2.0 and worked on energy-use models before returning to graduate study for a PhD. In his Cleaning Up interview, he describes spending a decade in that startup world.
A research milestone.
In 2019, he led a study asking how well earlier climate models had predicted warming. The team found that most had performed well, especially when accounting for the greenhouse gases actually emitted. The work connected a technical research question with a debate that many readers already knew.
Making the data readable.
He and Andrew Dessler introduced The Climate Brink in May 2023 as a place to examine climate risks and possible solutions. Alongside his writing for Carbon Brief, Zeke studies temperature records at Berkeley Earth and leads climate research at Stripe. He is also a lead author for the IPCC’s Seventh Assessment Report.

Physics we can understand, it is a deterministic system; future emissions depend on human systems, which are not necessarily deterministic.Zeke Hausfather, Berkeley News
Discussing why evaluating climate models requires separating their physics from assumptions about future human emissions, in December 2019.
