Mini bio
How it started.
Growing up in Belfast, McKimm imagined studying photography. Discovering John Galliano’s work changed that plan, and they studied fashion design at Nottingham Art School instead. London followed, along with a job at i-D and an apprenticeship with fashion director Edward Enninful.
Finding a voice.
McKimm built a freelance styling career across fashion magazines and brand campaigns. In 2013, i-D named them its first New York fashion director. They returned as editor-in-chief in 2019 and led the magazine until 2024, then worked as Vogue France’s fashion and image director at large in 2025.
Making things to keep.
Their books give fans a different way into the work. MICA gathers four years of iPhone photographs of model and friend Mica Argañaraz. JEAN brings together denim images from their styling archive, made with photographers including Mario Sorrenti, David Sims and Amy Troost.
The next chapter.
In 2026, McKimm joined Visual Talent Group as chief creative officer and co-founded prototype_ and VTG Studios with Peter Jones. The debut magazine gives fashion, art and culture room to meet, with separate chapters and no advertising.
