Mini bio
How it started.
Emily grew up in Encinitas, California, and began modeling at 14. Her parents worked in education and art, and she later studied visual art before leaving college.
The breakout.
Her appearance in the 2013 Blurred Lines music video brought her to a much wider audience. Film roles followed, including Andie Fitzgerald in David Fincher’s Gone Girl.
Building her own work.
In 2017 she launched Inamorata as a swimwear line. She developed the brand with her longtime friend Kat Mendenhall, drawing on their shared beach-town upbringing.
Writing and conversation.
My Body arrived in November 2021 and became a New York Times bestseller. The essays examine beauty, sexuality, power and the business of being seen. She later hosted High Low with EmRata, bringing conversations about culture, politics and relationships into podcasting.
Back on screen.
In 2025 Emily played Wendy Jones in Netflix’s Too Much. Alongside acting, her recent work includes fashion campaigns for Gucci, Tory Burch, UGG and Abercrombie & Fitch.
