Mini bio
How it started.
Alex grew up in Celina, Texas, and made Dallas home. In summer 2014, she and her sister Madison started The Defined Dish as a hobby: Alex covered food while Madison handled fitness. When Madison moved on, Alex kept building the blog.
Finding her cooking voice.
Her first Whole30 in 2015 helped shape the recipes she shared. She focused on approachable meals with the big flavors she loved growing up in Texas, while leaving room for treats and comfort food.
From blog to bookshelf.
Her debut cookbook, The Defined Dish, arrived in December 2019 and became a New York Times bestseller. The Comfortable Kitchen and Dinner Tonight followed, also becoming bestsellers. Her fourth book, Everyday Eats, came out in August 2026 with recipes spanning breakfast, dinner and sweets.
Making dinner easier.
In 2022, Alex launched SideDish, a line of sauces and dressings. She says the idea came from wanting products that tasted good and used ingredients she felt comfortable serving her family. It extends the same practical aim as her recipes: helping people get a meal on the table.
