Mini bio
How it started.
Born in Scotland and raised in Stratford-upon-Avon, Gordon first wanted to become a professional footballer. After an injury changed those plans, he studied hotel management and trained with chefs including Marco Pierre White, Albert Roux, Guy Savoy and Joël Robuchon.
Finding his own kitchen.
He became head chef at London’s Aubergine in 1993. Within three years, the restaurant had two Michelin stars. In 1998 he opened Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in Chelsea, the flagship that would become the centre of his restaurant career.
The cameras arrive.
The 1999 documentary Boiling Point followed the pressures of opening his first restaurant. Television became another part of his work, with Hell’s Kitchen, Kitchen Nightmares and MasterChef bringing his approach to cooking and restaurant life to viewers.
Cooking with the internet.
His online work includes recipe videos, the interview series Scrambled and Ramsay in 10, which went live during the COVID-19 pandemic. Studio Ramsay marked his YouTube channel reaching 10 million subscribers in 2019 with a burger video featuring Hot Ones host Sean Evans.
Behind the scenes.
He launched Studio Ramsay in 2016 and formed Studio Ramsay Global with FOX in 2021. In 2026, Being Gordon Ramsay gave fans a closer look at his family life and the work behind his restaurants at 22 Bishopsgate.
