Mini bio
How it started.
Alexa finished her first novel in early 2013, but a first agent and a long submission round did not lead to a sale. After shelving another manuscript, she began Brightly Burning during NaNoWriMo in 2015. She found agent Elana Roth Parker through a manuscript wish-list tweet, revised after an initial submission round, and sold the book to HMH Teen in April 2017.
Finding her readers.
Brightly Burning introduced her space-set take on Jane Eyre in 2018. The Stars We Steal followed in 2020, drawing on Persuasion. She then moved into YA murder mysteries with The Ivies, Pretty Dead Queens, and The Bitter End. The Ivies became a 2022 YALSA Teens’ Top Ten pick, while the next two thrillers earned Edgar nominations.
Writers helping writers.
With critique partner Heather Kaczynski, she co-founded Author Mentor Match in 2016 to give aspiring writers editorial guidance and publishing support. Her YouTube channel continues that teaching impulse through free videos on craft, querying, literary agents, and the publishing business.
What comes next.
Her official biography lists The Boyfriend Experience, her adult romance debut, for publication by Crown in 2028. She continues to balance fiction with television work in Los Angeles.
