Mini bio

Behind the camera.

Before cooking became the day job, Alton worked in film production, shooting commercials and music videos. Watching food television made Alton want to build a different kind of cooking show. Culinary school supplied the training to make that idea possible.

Why dinner works.

Good Eats first found an audience on a Chicago PBS station before reaching Food Network in 1999. Its mix of recipes, science, history and comic characters became Alton’s signature. The show made room for questions about why a method works as well as how to do it.

Beyond Good Eats.

Alton became a commentator on Iron Chef America and later hosted Cutthroat Kitchen. Books and culinary stage shows offered other ways to share that curiosity. Live touring began in 2013, while the 2025 essay collection Food for Thought opened up more personal kitchen and career stories.

Back in the kitchen.

In November 2025, Alton launched Alton Brown Cooks Food on YouTube with a fresh look at roast turkey. The 2026 episodes include visits with Guga and Babish, alongside cooking investigations into foods such as waffles and eggnog.
