Mini bio
How it started.
Andy grew up in New Zealand, helping his mum in the kitchen from about age three. In year 10, he left school to enrol in chef school. His restaurant career took him through Auckland, London, Singapore, Sydney and Melbourne before he began sharing the kind of food he loves making at home.
Finding a different kitchen.
After around 20 years as a professional chef, Andy started making online cooking content in November 2021. He wanted to become a better home cook himself and help others along the way. His familiar question to partner Katelyn, “Babe”, about what she wanted to eat became a calling card. Andy says that exchange grew out of how they already cooked at home.
From short clips to longer lessons.
YouTube named Andy its top Australian breakout creator in 2022 and placed him first among Australian creators in its 2023 roundup. His first book, Andy Cooks: The Cookbook, arrived in 2023. In a 2025 interview, he said longer videos were giving him more room to teach and tell stories about other chefs. His 2026 work includes a visit to the Seattle Seahawks’ kitchen and cooking experiments with Chris Young.
