Mini bio
How it started.
Andy left a sports science degree in his early twenties to study meditation in the Himalayas. A ten-year journey took him around the world and led to ordination as a Tibetan Buddhist monk in northern India.
Back to everyday life.
He returned to lay life in 2004, trained briefly at Moscow State Circus and completed a degree in Circus Arts in London. Alongside that unusual second chapter, he began developing the ideas that became Headspace.
Bringing meditation to more people.
Andy and Rich Pierson launched Headspace as an events company in London in 2010, then released its app in 2012. His spoken guidance became a central part of its meditation practice. His November 2012 TED talk offered another way in, showing how ten mindful minutes could fit into a busy day.
Books, animation and audio.
His books carry the same practical approach into meditation and pregnancy. In 2021, he guided viewers through eight animated episodes of Netflix’s Headspace Guide to Meditation. Radio Headspace continues to publish episodes featuring his reflections, including releases in 2025 and 2026.
