Mini bio
How it started.
Anjana grew up in Mumbai and loved copying dance steps from television. In a Hauterrfly interview, Anjana credited informal training in junior college with Karishma Chavan and Anisha Shah for building confidence as a dancer. After more than four years of salsa, bachata and other Latin styles, belly dance offered a new way to move independently.
Finding a platform.
Belly dance developed alongside a growing sense of body acceptance. Encouragement from instructor Sanjana Muthreja sparked an interest in teaching. In 2016, Anjana was selected among ten models for aLL’s plus-size show at Lakmé Fashion Week, a public platform for the same message of confidence and inclusion.
A different kind of stage.
Anjana told Hauterrfly in January 2021 about wanting to try comedy open mics. By July 2022, Mid-day reported regular open-mic participation since 2021, alongside a job as a statistical programmer and weekend belly dance teaching. In a 2025 DW documentary, Anjana described wanting students to feel safe enough to dance in the bodies they have.
