Mini bio
How it started.
Anna studied biology at Brown and worked as a research assistant at the American Museum of Natural History. Her projects ranged from dolphin genes to caviar fraud and malaria parasites in lizard blood. Wanting to explore more than one scientific subject, she moved into journalism and earned her NYU master’s in 2010.
Making curiosity visible.
At NOVA, Anna built science stories for the web and created Gross Science for NOVA and PBS Digital Studios. She hosted, wrote, animated and edited episodes, turning questions about strange biology into approachable explanations. The series brought her a 2016 AAAS Kavli award in Children’s Science News.
More ways to ask questions.
Anna went on to create and host Anna’s Science Magic Show Hooray! at The Washington Post and became a senior video producer at FiveThirtyEight, where she also hosted PODCAST-19. Her TED-Ed lessons explore subjects including the Amazon rainforest and inhalers.
Conversations across disagreements.
With Brooke Borel, Anna co-hosted Undark’s Entanglements, bringing guests with differing views together to discuss scientific controversies. In the October 2026 series finale, she reflected on becoming bolder as a journalist. The hosts said no further season was planned for now.
