Mini bio
How it started.
Youn grew up in Greenville, Michigan, in a Korean American family. Surgery to correct his jaw after high school helped shape his interest in plastic surgery. He studied at Kalamazoo College and Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, trained in Grand Rapids and completed an aesthetic surgery fellowship in Los Angeles before returning to Michigan.
Finding an audience.
A short appearance on Dr. 90210 in 2004 brought attention to his new practice. TV appearances followed, including The Rachael Ray Show and The Doctors. When his office closed during the 2020 pandemic, he made more videos himself, using his phone and a tripod. In interviews, he credits letting his humor show with helping his online audience grow.
From the clinic to the bookshelf.
His books follow two threads: the personal stories of becoming a doctor in In Stitches and Playing God, and his approach to beauty and aging in The Age Fix and Younger for Life. He also hosts The Doctor Youn Show, with guest interviews, solo episodes and questions from followers.
