Mini bio
Art before anatomy.
Before medicine, Lara studied drawing, painting, and sculpture, including coursework at the Getty Villa Museum. She went on to Yale and Johns Hopkins, earned medical and public health degrees, and completed plastic and reconstructive surgery training through the Columbia and Cornell program at NewYork-Presbyterian.
Finding her audience.
A friend suggested she try Instagram. In a 2019 account of a Galderma interview, Lara described starting with about 100 school friends and gradually building an audience. Her visual explanations opened a window onto a field she wanted people to understand more clearly.
From her practice to the beauty shelf.
Her skincare began with products for patients in her Upper East Side office. Demand led her team to sell online, followed by Violet Grey and a Sephora online launch in 2020. Platinum Lip Plump and her lash serum became central products as the line reached a wider audience.
More conversations, more stories.
Alongside her surgical practice and Scientific Beauty, Lara hosts The Dr. Lara Devgan Podcast, formerly Beauty Bosses, interviewing founders across beauty, fashion, design, and other businesses. Her forthcoming HarperCollins book, Beauty Is in the Details, brings together her interests in anatomy, identity, aging, and how people perceive beauty.
