Mini bio
How it started.
Raised in Malibu, Anwar followed older sisters Gigi and Bella into modeling. An October 2015 Nylon editorial marked an early step, followed by signing with IMG in February 2016. Anwar made a runway debut with Moschino that June and landed a first major campaign for HUGO menswear in 2017.
Finding a voice.
Anwar told i-D that making music began at fifteen. After living in New York, a return to Los Angeles brought a friendship with bandmate Joey and more recording. The debut album Bleach arrived in 2019, with a Jaden Smith collaboration. The band previously called Oswald later became howVanish, which released its debut single Cinnamon in September 2025.
Making things by hand.
Obsidian grew from a shared interest in leatherwork with designer Ty Stephano. The label launched in 2025 with accessories and clothing. Anwar describes music and fashion as connected creative outlets, with friends and live performance helping shape what gets made.
