Mini bio
How it started.
Born in Azad Kashmir, Asrar describes writing lines and inventing tunes as a child. His own SoundCloud biography says his family moved to Hyderabad in 1992 and that he met Ustad Sultan Ahmad Khan in 2005, who taught him the basics of classical music. He later settled in Lahore.
Finding his audience.
Early songs including “Ni Saiyo” and “Waris Shah” preceded his mainstream breakthrough on Coke Studio in 2014. Season 7 gave listeners “Sab Aakho Ali Ali” and “Shakar Wandaan Re,” bringing his folk and devotional approach to a much wider audience.
A voice across screens.
In 2015, he made his Bollywood playback debut with “Afghan Jalebi (Ya Baba)” for Phantom, composed by Pritam with lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya. Television listeners also know his voice from Parizaad, whose soundtrack pairs his singing with Waqar Ali’s composition and Hashim Nadeem Khan’s lyrics.
Still making his own songs.
Alongside soundtrack work, he keeps releasing his own material. Recent videos include “Peekaboo,” the Pahadi song “ACHO BO NA” and “Main Roya,” with Asrar credited for lyrics and composition and Majid Raza a recurring collaborator on music and direction.
