How it started.
Born in Ethiopia to parents fleeing war in what is now South Sudan, Awar grew up in Moose Jaw, Canada. Awar studied health sciences and hoped to become a doctor. At 17, agent Kelly Streit spotted Awar folding sweaters at Old Navy.
Finding a place in fashion.
Early modeling experiences took Awar to Milan and then international runways. The smiling, unscripted finale at Matthieu Blazy’s 2025 Chanel debut brought wider attention. Models.com’s industry voters named Awar their women’s Model of the Year for 2025.
What comes next.
In 2026, Awar’s work included a Vogue Italia cover, Tory Burch campaigns and Chanel eyewear. In interviews, Awar has spoken about belonging, respect for Black models and finding freedom in the work.
