Mini bio
How it started.
Brian launched He Spoke Style in 2013 to bring useful advice and outfit inspiration together. He wanted men who were curious about clothes to find a welcoming place to learn. Before that, music and elite bicycle racing had filled much of his life.
Finding an audience.
Photography with Rob McIver helped shape the site from its early days. A trip to Venice with Persol in October 2013 became one of its first major brand partnerships. In his review of 2014, Brian reported that site traffic had tripled over the previous year.
From advice to clothing.
The He Spoke Style Shop opened in 2017. Brian’s own wardrobe informs the clothes: when he introduced a dark brown Donegal tweed suit in 2023, he described it as an update of the first suit he had made, a garment tied to the beginnings of the site.
The musician behind the menswear.
Brian served for more than 20 years with the United States Army Field Band, working in music and strategic communications before retiring. His writing has also appeared in The Robb Report, The Rake and Sotheby’s.
