Mini bio
How it started.
Carly began The College Prepster in December 2008 while a freshman at Georgetown. A difficult first semester left her looking for a creative outlet, and a friend encouraged her to try blogging. In a 2011 essay for The Georgetown Voice, she recalled being recognized by a reader at an airport just two years after starting.
From outlet to career.
After graduating and working at a startup, Carly made blogging her full-time job. The College Prepster grew beyond campus life into fashion, travel and personal writing. The Shorty Awards later recognized that work with a Lifestyle nomination at its ninth annual awards.
Books, stitches and business.
Her work now includes CARLY, Carly’s Book Club and Carly’s Stitch Club. DK published Business Minded in December 2021, combining business guidance, workbook exercises and advice from other entrepreneurs. She introduced By a Thread in September 2024 as a place for more informal personal essays.
Life now.
Based in New Jersey with her husband and two sons, Carly continues to share preppy style, reading recommendations, hobbies and everyday family life. Recent posts range from cardigan reviews to reflections on spending more time offline.
