Mini bio
A gym kid from Santa Cruz.
Chris began climbing at 12 at Pacific Edge. At 14 he won the adult U.S. Open Bouldering Nationals, and as a teenager he freed Necessary Evil, then North America’s hardest sport climb.
Finding a way forward.
His 2001 first ascent of Biographie, also called Realization, in Céüse, France became a benchmark at 5.15a. He went on to establish Jumbo Love at 5.15b and make the second ascent of La Dura Dura at 5.15c. Much of his work begins with imagining a route that nobody has climbed yet.
Above the sea.
Mallorca became a lasting creative home for Chris’s deep-water soloing. His ascent of the Es Pontàs sea arch features in King Lines. Later projects include Alasha, Big Fish and Black Pearl, a route tied to his friendship with Mallorca climbing pioneer Miquel Riera.
Sharing the world he loves.
Alongside outdoor climbing, Chris owns climbing gyms in California and Spain. He helped create The Climb with Jason Momoa and The Intellectual Property Corporation, bringing amateur climbers into an outdoor competition series. He lives in Barcelona with his wife and two children.
