Mini bio

How it started.

Cory studied economics and had a Wall Street internship lined up. In his conversation with Cecily Mak, he recalled a meeting with a hedge fund manager that made him question whether that version of success would make him happy. That question helped turn him toward meditation.

Six months in silence.

In 2012, he spent six months in Burma practicing Vipassana meditation for 14 to 20 hours a day. He was ordained under Sayadaw U Pandita in the Mahasi lineage of Theravada Buddhism. Back in everyday life, he began translating that intensive training into practical teachings.

Finding an audience.

His accessible teachings on mindfulness and wellbeing grew into a social media audience of more than a million. Alongside that online work, he has taught mindful leadership at Columbia and positive psychology at Penn, and contributed meditations to apps including Mindfulness.com and 10% Happier.

From practice to the page.

His book Stop Missing Your Life first appeared in December 2019. It explores the protective walls people build around themselves and introduces FACE: Focus, Allow, Curiosity, and Embodiment. His Practicing Human podcast carries that interest in presence into short teachings for daily life.
