Denzel Dion

How it started.

Denzel built his early audience with comedy on Vine. In a Flaunt interview, he recalled visiting California with money from his first YMCA paycheck and discovering that strangers already recognized him from a Vine he had posted. He began posting daily after that encounter.

Finding his voice.

On YouTube, Denzel moved into longer videos, including story times and blunt fashion commentary. He told Tubefilter that he wanted to challenge himself beyond Vine’s short skits. His pop culture critiques helped him pass one million subscribers in December 2018 and become a Breakout YouTuber finalist at the 11th Shorty Awards.

Creating with Rickey.

Denzel and Rickey Thompson met at Digifest in 2014 while both were making Vines. Their friendship became a creative partnership: Snapchat’s Road Trippin’ premiered in July 2020, sending them across rural America, and Spotify launched their podcast We Said What We Said that September.

Making the clothes he wanted.

Denzel told Byline that struggling to find clothes he wanted in his size helped push him to create his own. His label NOiD developed a genderless approach. For its 2023 COLLISION presentation, he brought Ghanaian and American influences together through silhouettes and a red-and-black palette connected to Ghanaian funeral dress.
