Mini bio
How it started.
Dharmesh started their first software company on April Fool’s Day in 1994, aged 24. That company, Pyramid Digital Solutions, was acquired by SunGard in 2005. Before HubSpot, they had already learned what it meant to build and sell software.
The HubSpot chapter.
As MIT graduate students, Dharmesh and Brian Halligan noticed that buyers wanted useful information rather than interruptions. They founded HubSpot in 2006 around inbound marketing. Alongside the company, Dharmesh built an audience through OnStartups and co-wrote Inbound Marketing with Halligan in 2009.
Sharing the work.
In 2013, Dharmesh published HubSpot’s Culture Code, opening up the company’s thinking about the workplace. The writing and talks extend beyond products: startup decisions, company culture, and lessons from building a business are recurring subjects.
Still building.
The experiments kept coming: ChatSpot in 2023, then Agent.ai in 2024. In July 2026, Dharmesh announced Agent.ai’s shutdown and explained that its lessons were feeding HubSpot’s Agent Builder. Recent Simple AI posts also document YouSpot, their personal CRM project, and practical ways to use AI in everyday life.
