Mini bio
How it started.
Joyce began blogging in 2011 while taking a year out of Stanford medical school for a medical journalism fellowship. The year brought her to the World Health Organization in Geneva and NBC News in New York. She moved into her own Tea with MD website in 2013, using writing as a creative outlet while finding her path in medicine.
Finding her voice.
She completed dermatology residency at NYU and grew Tea with MD from a blog into a home for skin, hair and nail education across social platforms. Among her widely watched posts is a TikTok about which foods actually cause acne. Her work also brought collaborations with bareMinerals and Neutrogena.
Building her own practice.
In July 2022, Joyce announced Skin Refinery, her virtual dermatology clinic. In her announcement, she explained that she wanted more control over patient care and more room to focus on the patient-doctor relationship. In 2026, she added Kerativ, a scalp care brand shaped by the hair concerns she heard in clinic.
