Mini bio
How it started.
Karan trained in medicine at Imperial College London, graduating in 2014. In an alumni interview, he traced his interest in the human body to his mother’s stories about hospital shifts. He went on to work in general surgery and teach at the University of Sunderland.
Finding his audience.
His short videos found a large audience during the pandemic, when he used humour and plain explanations to challenge medical misinformation. That mix of curiosity, bluntness and science became his signature across TikTok, YouTube, Instagram and Facebook.
Beyond short videos.
His first book, This Book May Save Your Life, appeared in December 2023 and became a No. 1 Sunday Times bestseller. He launched Dr Karan Explores in 2024, making space for longer conversations with researchers and clinicians. His television work includes Your Body Uncovered and the 2025 documentary Do You Have ADHD?
What he is building.
In 2025 he launched LOAM, a prebiotic fibre company developed over two years. His second book, This is Vital Information, followed in January 2026, taking on the medical questions people often keep to themselves. He also writes The Weekly Dose newsletter.
