Mini bio
How it started.
Before millions of people knew her as @drjulie, Julie worked in the NHS and private practice. She began sharing short psychology videos in 2019, bringing explanations of anxiety, depression and confidence to people beyond the therapy room.
Finding her audience.
Her videos reached a much wider audience during the pandemic. The aim stayed practical: make mental health education freely available, with ideas people could understand and use in everyday life.
From videos to books.
Her 2022 debut, Why Has Nobody Told Me This Before?, became a number one Sunday Times bestseller. Penguin reports more than a million English-language copies sold and translations into over 45 languages. Open When… followed in January 2025, pairing letters for difficult moments with tools for responding to them.
Beyond the feed.
Julie is also a BBC Children in Need ambassador and a regular expert on ITV’s This Morning. Her longer interviews give fans room to hear how she thinks about relationships, self-compassion and the pressures of modern life.
