How it started.
Shefali grew up in Mumbai and moved to the United States at 21. She trained in clinical psychology at Columbia University. Becoming a mother changed her work: as Teachers College recounts, she began drawing more deeply on mindfulness and asking parents to examine their own reactions in the moment.
The book that opened the door.
The Conscious Parent, first published in 2010, asks adults to see parenting as a chance to grow themselves. Her 2014 appearance on Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday brought that approach to a wider audience. The Awakened Family continued her focus on connection, emotional awareness and children’s individuality.
