Mini bio
How it started.
Before wrestling and movies, Johnson pursued professional football. When that dream ended at 23, he had $7 left and began again in wrestling. His father was wrestler Rocky Johnson, and WWE identifies him as its first third-generation Superstar.
Becoming The Rock.
He debuted at WWE’s 1996 Survivor Series and became a central figure of the Attitude Era, with rivals including Steve Austin and Triple H. His delivery, catchphrases and matches helped carry him beyond wrestling. He went on to win eight WWE Championships.
From the ring to the screen.
His film debut came in The Mummy Returns in 2001, followed by his first leading role in The Scorpion King in 2002. Later work ranged from the Fast & Furious films and Jumanji to voicing Maui in Moana. He co-founded Seven Bucks Productions with Dany Garcia, expanding into film, television and digital programming.
A different challenge.
In The Smashing Machine, Johnson took on real-life fighter Mark Kerr, starring opposite Emily Blunt under director Benny Safdie. The role earned a Golden Globe nomination. His own YouTube channel also offers Q&As, reactions, training videos and previews of his screen work.
