Mini bio
How it started.
Eddie began putting his classroom lessons online in 2012 to help a student who was missing school during cancer treatment. His own mother’s illness had affected his education, so the problem felt personal. WooTube grew from that practical act of care into a resource used far beyond his Sydney classroom.
The classroom reaches further.
His 2017 Australian Story feature, Channelling Mr Woo, brought his teaching to a wider audience. In 2018 he became Australia’s Local Hero and a Top 10 finalist for the Global Teacher Prize. His work continued across books and television, including Woo’s Wonderful World of Maths and the family-budget series Teenage Boss.
Teaching the next teachers.
A University of Sydney education graduate, Eddie joined its School of Education and Social Work as Professor of Practice in 2023 to teach and mentor future teachers. He also shares maths through projects beyond school, including his 2026 National Gallery collaboration, which connects artworks with geometry, patterns and spatial relationships.
