Mini bio
How it started.
Emily grew up in Morgantown, West Virginia, and studied mechanical and aerospace engineering at West Virginia University before earning two master’s degrees at MIT. Her early experience included NASA internships. Engineering also gave her a taste of weightlessness through a college parabolic-flight program.
Finding her audience.
She began hosting Xploration Outer Space in 2014, becoming the first American woman to solo-host a nationally broadcast science series. She later worked as a correspondent on Bill Nye Saves the World. Emily’s Wonder Lab arrived on Netflix in August 2020, bringing experiments that children and their families could try at home.
Science you can join in with.
Her work carries that curiosity into children’s books and Emily’s Science Lab on YouTube. The Ada Lace Adventures blend science with mysteries, while the Stay Curious books invite families to experiment together. She also speaks about science communication, space exploration and women in STEM.
Taking the next step.
On November 22, 2024, she flew on Blue Origin’s NS-28 suborbital mission and became the 100th woman to reach space. She has continued sharing the experience in interviews and public appearances alongside her science education work.
