Mini bio
How it started.
Erin began her career teaching English in Botswana as a Peace Corps volunteer, then worked with Asian immigrants in the United States. Living and working across Africa, Europe and the US helped spark her interest in how people communicate across cultures.
Finding a framework.
At INSEAD, she developed the work behind The Culture Map, published in 2014. Its eight dimensions give readers a way to compare expectations around things like feedback, trust and decisions. Her Harvard Business Review article “Getting to Si, Ja, Oui, Hai, and Da” was the magazine’s most-read article of 2015.
Inside Netflix.
In 2020 she published No Rules Rules with Netflix co-founder Reed Hastings. The book grew from their study of Netflix’s approach to company culture. Today she continues that conversation through teaching, talks and short videos about the small misunderstandings that can shape a team’s working day.
