Mini bio
How it started.
Fraser came to space journalism through software and web development. While working at Communicate.com, he wanted hands-on experience running a website. An avid amateur astronomer, he chose a subject he already loved and launched Universe Today in March 1999.
Finding his audience.
In his own account, the site grew enough within a few years to become his full-time work, eventually supporting a team of writers and millions of monthly readers. In 2006 he met Dr. Pamela Gay, and together they created Astronomy Cast. He brings an astronomy enthusiast’s questions; she brings an astronomer’s answers.
From the screen to the sky.
His Guide to Space work includes news roundups, audience Q&As and conversations with researchers. He also contributed material to David Dickinson’s 2018 book The Universe Today Ultimate Guide to Viewing the Cosmos, a practical introduction to observing the night sky.

In March 2025, Fraser rebuilt Universe Today as an ad-free site. He credited more than 3,000 supporters with helping pay the writers, editors and producers who make its space coverage possible.
