Mini bio

How it started.

Born in London and raised in Leeds, Greg was the youngest of five children. At nine, he started a car-washing business. He later left law school in England after realizing that the work he wanted to do was teaching and writing about human potential.

The moment that stayed with him.

One experience helped shape his Essentialism message: he left the hospital after his daughter was born to attend a client meeting. Looking back, he saw that he had traded something essential for someone else’s expectations.

Finding his subject.

Before Essentialism, Greg collaborated with Liz Wiseman on Multipliers, published in 2010, about leaders who bring out the intelligence of others. His own Essentialism followed in 2014, asking readers to choose carefully where they put their time and energy. It became a New York Times bestseller.

Putting the ideas into practice.

Effortless followed in 2021, exploring how to make important activities easier to sustain. The Essentialism Planner arrived in 2024 with a 90-day framework. His podcast keeps the conversation going with guests from leadership, psychology, writing and beyond.
