Mini bio
How it started.
Hajime began posting to YouTube in 2012 while at Shizuoka University. In an anan interview, they recalled wanting to make something memorable during university and trying ideas other people had not attempted, from Mentos and cola to buying up convenience-store bread with a month’s part-time wages.
Finding an audience.
After studying English in the UK in 2013, Hajime returned to Japan and joined UUUM in 2014. They told anan that ideas collected abroad became a rush of uploads back home, including an indoor pitching-machine experiment and a cotton-candy cloud. The growing audience helped turn a planned career teaching English into a life making videos.
Going bigger.
The scale became part of the fun: a 740-person game of daruma-san ga koronda earned a Guinness World Record in 2015. A video of Hajime eating an enormous gummy, uploaded that same year, passed 100 million views in 2019. In 2018, they also launched Hajime Syacho no Hatake, a channel built around everyday life with friends.
Beyond the experiments.
Hajime’s second channel includes gaming, while work beyond YouTube includes voicing President Goha in Yu-Gi-Oh! SEVENS. Recent projects include a Meiji candy-city build, a Mentos ambassadorship and television game-show appearances. The common thread is a willingness to turn an unlikely idea into something fans can watch unfold.
