Mini bio
How it started.
Hannah completed a PhD in fluid dynamics in 2011, studying the movement of liquid droplets. After working as an aerodynamicist in motorsport, she moved into complexity science at UCL, using mathematics to explore human behaviour.
A way into maths.
Her 2014 TEDx talk The mathematics of love brought questions about dating and relationships into the world of probability. It reached millions of viewers, and she also wrote The Mathematics of Love, a TED Book.
Numbers meet everyday life.
In Hello World, she asks how much power we should give algorithms in areas such as healthcare and justice. Her presenting work takes the same curiosity into everyday inventions in The Secret Genius of Modern Life and across countries in The Infinite Explorer.
Sharing the questions.
In January 2025 she became Cambridge’s first Professor of the Public Understanding of Mathematics. Later that year she launched The Rest Is Science with Michael Stevens. Her 2026 series AI Confidential follows people whose lives have been changed by AI.
