Mini bio

How it started.

Jaffer and Maaz Maudood attended the same school from first grade and began working together after getting to know each other in ninth grade. Their partnership became Kaavish, which the band dates to 1998. In a 2006 interview, Jaffer described music as his own passion and acknowledged the influence of his mother, singer Nayyara Noor.

Finding their sound.

Bachpan brought Kaavish into the spotlight. The group followed its early singles with the debut album Gunkali, drawing together Jaffer’s compositions and live instrumentation. His voice and piano remain central to the band’s semi-classical sound.

From the house band to music direction.

Coke Studio became another home for his work. He moved from the house band into music direction, including Seasons 9 and 10. In 2017, he wrote, composed and music-directed Faasle, performing with Kaavish and Quratulain Balouch. He also worked with Ali Sethi on a tribute to Mehdi Hasan.

The recent chapter.

Kaavish collaborated with Abdul Hannan on O Yaara in 2024, then with the Anirudh Varma Collective and flautist Rohit Prasanna on Rung in 2025. Intezaar followed in April 2026. Alongside releases and concerts, the band has been sharing films that let fans revisit its live performances.
