Mini bio

How it started.

Before readers knew his books and podcast, James wanted to write fiction. In his own account, he spent six years sending out unpublished novels and stories before moving to New York City in 1994. He knew how to build websites, worked at HBO, and also made late-night interviews for HBO.com.

Building and rebuilding.

His early business career included the web company Reset and the investing community Stockpickr. Wikipedia dates the sale of Reset to 1998 and Stockpickr’s sale to 2007. James later made his experiences of losing money and rebuilding his life a central subject of his writing.

Choosing himself.

Choose Yourself arrived in 2013 and became a Wall Street Journal bestseller, according to his official biography. Its themes of independence, daily habits, and starting again also run through his blog. He launched The James Altucher Show in 2014, bringing that interest in reinvention into conversations with entrepreneurs, writers, performers, and other guests.

Still asking questions.

His books include The Power of No, written with Claudia Azula Altucher, and Skip the Line. In his recent interviews and essays, he has been exploring AI, publishing, leadership, and the ways people adapt when their work changes.
