How it started.
Jesse Riedel grew up in Westlake Village, California, making skits with older brother James, who creates as Jiedel. Early gaming uploads included Minecraft before basketball became the channel’s focus. Fans first knew the channel as JesserTheLazer.
The breakout.
The NBA 2K14 In Real Life skits turned the game’s awkward animations and glitches into scenes on an actual court. Sports sites shared them in 2014. In a later Colin and Samir interview, Jesser described that success as the turning point after years of small audiences.
Basketball with friends.
Jesser went full time at 17. The channel grew around the parts of sports that happen beyond the scoreboard: games, sneakers, pickup runs and challenges with friends. Athlete collaborations now include a guessing game with Giannis and Alex Antetokounmpo, while the AAU series follows a team Jesser assembled into a tournament.
Beyond the channel.
Bucketsquad turned the community around the videos into a basketball apparel business. Its first sneaker line arrived in 2023. In 2026, Jesser announced JesserCo to bring the content operation and Bucketsquad together, while expanding into soccer and football series.
