Mini bio

How it started.

Galliano studied at Saint Martins in London and graduated in 1984. His collection Les Incroyables drew on the extravagant dress of post-Revolutionary France. He spent hours studying garments at the V&A, and Browns bought the entire graduation collection.

From London to Paris.

He went on to lead Givenchy in 1995 and joined Dior in 1996. At Dior, his work included the Saddle bag, designed in 1999 for the spring/summer 2000 collection. His interest in history and theatrical presentation runs from those student designs through his later couture.

A difficult turning point.

Dior dismissed Galliano in 2011 after antisemitic comments. He returned to a major creative role at Maison Margiela in 2014 and left in December 2024. In his 2026 statement with the Met, he acknowledged the hurt he caused Jewish and Asian communities and described atonement as an ongoing responsibility.

A new chapter.

His 2024 Artisanal collection staged a night-time Paris beneath Pont Alexandre III. In 2026, he began a partnership with Zara, reworking its archives into seasonal collections. The first, Re{form}, arrived in October.
