Mini bio

How it started.

Born in Erlangen in 1964, Teller studied photography in Munich from 1984 to 1986 before moving to London. Music gave him an early route into the city’s creative world. His portrait for Sinéad O’Connor’s Nothing Compares 2 U single was an early breakthrough, and he went on to photograph fashion for magazines including The Face and i-D.

A different kind of fashion photograph.

Teller built a visual language around direct portraits, humor and deliberately imperfect scenes. His collaborations with Marc Jacobs, Céline and Vivienne Westwood brought that approach into advertising. For Marc Jacobs in 2008, Victoria Beckham’s legs emerged from a shopping bag. Go-Sees, published in 1999, collected portraits of aspiring models arriving at his London studio.

Life inside the work.

Self-portraits, family life and commercial assignments sit alongside one another in his books and exhibitions. The 2023 book i need to live accompanied exhibitions in Paris and Milan. Recent projects with his wife and creative partner Dovile Drizyte include Symposium of Love, presented in the 2025 Athens exhibition you are invited.

In 2007, he was one of five artists asked to represent Ukraine at the Venice Biennale.
